Trail ratings are the difficulty grades your runs use on the map, in trail lists, and in your live lift & trail status feed — for example Beginner, More Difficult, or Expert. Every resort starts with a standard set of ratings, and as a Manager you can tailor that set to your resort in Configuration > Trail Ratings: change how a rating looks, add one of your own, or hide a standard rating you don't use. Changes apply to your resort only — other resorts are never affected.
Before you begin
- You need the Asset management permission (Manager). If you can't see Configuration > Trail Ratings, ask a resort administrator to grant it.
- Trail ratings are set per resort. If you manage more than one resort, switch to the resort you want to change first — you are always editing the ratings for your current resort.
Where do I manage trail ratings?
In the left menu, go to Configuration > Trail Ratings. The page lists every rating your resort uses. Each row shows the rating's on-map appearance (its line and difficulty symbol), its name, and a Source label:
- Default — a standard rating shared by all resorts. You can Customise or Hide it.
- Customised — a standard rating you have changed the appearance or values of, for your resort only.
- Added — a rating you created that exists only for your resort.
How do I change a standard rating for my resort? (Customise)
Editing a standard Default rating makes a copy for your resort — the shared default is left untouched for everyone else.
- Go to Configuration > Trail Ratings.
- On the rating you want to change, click Customise.
- Adjust any of the fields (see What each field means below) — for example change the Line colour or the MTN feed value.
- Click Save trail rating.
The rating now shows as Customised for your resort, and the map, trail lists and status feed use your version. Other resorts keep the original.
How do I add a rating that's unique to my resort? (Add)
- Go to Configuration > Trail Ratings and click New trail rating.
- Enter a Label and set its appearance and MTN feed value.
- Click Save trail rating.
The new rating appears as Added and is available when you edit a trail at your resort. It is never shown to other resorts.
How do I hide a standard rating I don't use? (Hide and Restore)
If a standard rating doesn't apply to your resort, hide it so it stops appearing in your pickers, map legend and reports. Hiding never deletes anything or affects other resorts, and any trail already using that rating keeps working.
- Go to Configuration > Trail Ratings.
- On the rating you want to remove, click Hide.
Hidden standard ratings are listed under Hidden defaults at the bottom of the page. To bring one back, click Restore next to it.
To remove a rating you Added yourself, click Delete on its row. To undo a customisation and go back to the shared default, click Revert.
What does each field mean?
- Label — the name shown in dropdowns, the map legend and reports (e.g. "More Difficult (Blue Square)").
- Line colour — the colour the run is drawn in on the map. Pick a swatch or enter a hex value.
- Fill colour — used where a rating is shown as a filled area.
- Line style — Solid or Dashed. Choosing Dashed lets you set the dash pattern.
- Line weight — how thick the run line is drawn.
- Difficulty symbol — the shape repeated along the run: circle, square, diamond or double diamond (the North American difficulty symbols), or none.
- MTN feed value — the difficulty token sent to your live lift & trail status feed for runs with this rating. See showing live status on your website.
- Colour key — an internal identifier for the rating's map style. Leave a standard rating's colour key as it is.
- Sort order — controls the order ratings appear in lists and the legend (lower first).
A live preview at the top of the form shows the line and symbol exactly as they will appear on the map, so you can confirm a rating looks right before saving.
Will my changes affect other resorts or existing runs?
No. Trail ratings are per resort — customising, adding, hiding or restoring a rating only changes your resort. Existing runs keep their rating and keep rendering; hiding a rating removes it from your pickers and legend but does not change runs that already use it.
