How do I group staff into teams on the Dispatch map?

Team grouping lets dispatchers group on-shift staff into teams (crews) on the Dispatch map. Team grouping is built for event-style operations, such as races and ultramarathons, where responders work and move in crews of two or more. Each team shows as one marker on the map, so the dispatcher places a crew once instead of placing every person separately.

Before you begin

  • A Manager must turn on Team grouping on map for your resort. Team grouping is off by default.
  • You need access to the Map page (the Dispatch map) to create and manage teams. Managers and Dispatchers can open the Map page.
  • Only staff who are signed on can be added to a team. See How do I sign on and off for my shift?

When to use team grouping

Use team grouping when responders deploy as crews that move together, such as checkpoint crews, sweep teams or roaming pairs. If your staff work alone, such as ski patrollers on individual runs, leave team grouping off and place each person individually on the Dispatch map.

How do I turn on team grouping for my resort?

  1. In the left menu, go to Settings > Resort Settings.
  2. In the settings menu, click Dispatch map.
  3. Switch on Team grouping on map.
  4. Click Save changes in the top right.

Team grouping applies to the whole resort. To turn team grouping off again, switch off Team grouping on map and click Save changes.

What changes on the Dispatch map when team grouping is on?

With Team grouping on map switched on, the Dispatch map changes in these ways:

  • In the Layers sidebar, the staff section is renamed from Team to Staff.
  • The Staff section shows a New team button, a list of teams, and an Ungrouped list of on-shift staff who are not in a team.
  • Each team shows on the map as one team marker in the team's colour, with a people icon, the number of members (for example, ×3) and the team name underneath.
  • Staff in a team no longer have their own individual map marker. Staff in the Ungrouped list keep their individual map markers.

Teams are shared. Every dispatcher viewing your resort's Dispatch map sees the same teams, and changes appear on other screens at the next automatic refresh.

How do I create a team on the Dispatch map?

  1. On the Map page, open the Layers sidebar.
  2. In the Staff section, click New team.
  3. The new team is created with a default name (Team 1, Team 2 and so on) and a colour, and the team edit panel opens.
  4. Type a name in the Team name box (for example, the crew's checkpoint name).
  5. Optionally, click a colour in the colour palette to change the team colour.
  6. Add members with the + buttons in the Ungrouped list (see below).
  7. Click Done.

How do I add staff to a team?

Each on-shift staff member in the Ungrouped list has a + button once at least one team exists. What the + button does depends on the situation:

  • While a team is being edited — the + button adds the person to that team.
  • When only one team exists — the + button adds the person to that team.
  • When there are two or more teams — the + button opens an Add [name] to… list. Click the team the person should join.

A staff member can only be in one team at a time. To move someone to a different team, remove them from their current team first, then add them to the new team from the Ungrouped list.

How do I remove staff from a team?

Remove a staff member from a team in either of these ways:

  • In the Staff section of the Layers sidebar, click the × next to the person's name under their team.
  • On the map, click the team marker, then click the × next to the person's name in the member list.

The person returns to the Ungrouped list and stays signed on. Removing the last member of a team disbands the team, so Medic52 asks you to confirm first.

How do I place or move a team on the map?

  • Drag the team marker to the team's location on the Dispatch map.

Moving a team marker also updates the last known location of every member in the team. If a member later leaves the team, their individual marker appears at the team's last position.

A new team that has not been placed yet appears at the centre of your resort map. Clicking the team marker shows Not placed yet until the team is dragged to a location.

Note: A team marker that has not been moved for 30 minutes or more is shown faded. A faded team marker means the team's position may be out of date — confirm the team's location by radio before dispatching.

How do I see who is in a team?

  • Click the team marker on the map. A member list opens showing the team name, each member's name and radio number, and when the team was last placed (for example, Placed 12 minutes ago).

The member list always shows radio numbers. A member with no radio number recorded is shown with a dash (—). In the Layers sidebar, member badges follow your resort's Call signs setting.

Clicking a team name in the Staff section centres the map on that team's marker. Clicking a member's name under a team also centres the map on the team's marker.

How do I rename, recolour or hide a team?

To rename or recolour a team:

  1. In the Staff section, click the pencil (Edit team) button next to the team.
  2. Change the name in the Team name box, or click a new colour in the palette.
  3. Click Done.

To hide or show one team's marker on the map, click the eye (Hide on map / Show on map) button next to the team. Hiding a team only changes your own screen. Other dispatchers still see the team.

How do I disband a team?

  1. In the Staff section, click the pencil (Edit team) button next to the team.
  2. Click Disband.
  3. Confirm the message Disband [team]? Members stay on shift and return to Ungrouped.

Disbanding a team never signs anyone off. All members return to the Ungrouped list.

Frequently asked

What happens to a team when a member signs off?

When a staff member signs off, Medic52 removes that person from their team automatically. The team, its marker and its other members are not affected. A team whose members have all signed off is removed automatically after about a day; disband the team to remove it straight away.

Can I assign an incident to a team?

No. Team grouping does not assign incidents to teams. The Assigned To field on an incident holds one staff member. To dispatch a crew, assign the incident to a member of that team.

Can staff see their team in the Medic52 mobile app?

No. Teams are only shown on the Dispatch map in the Medic52 web dashboard. Staff cannot see or join teams in the mobile app.

Can I search for a team or a team member?

Yes. The search box at the top of the Layers sidebar finds staff by name or radio number, including staff who are in a team.
