Yes. The Medic52 mobile app is built to work with no signal, which matters on a mountain or a remote course. You can keep working, and the app catches up with the server on its own once you're back in coverage.
What can I do offline?
With no connection you can still:
- Create new incidents and open ones you've already viewed, using your resort's incident form saved on the phone.
- Edit incidents. Anything you change is marked as Waiting to sync until it reaches the server.
- Sign on and off your shift from the Shift tab.
- Take photos and capture signatures on an incident.
Everything you do is stored on your phone first, so nothing is lost while you're offline.
How does it sync back up?
When your phone regains a connection, the app syncs automatically in the background. It sends your new incidents, edits, sign-on records and photos to Medic52 in the order you made them. You don't need to press anything. Being offline isn't an error: changes simply wait until there's signal.
How do I see what hasn't synced yet?
While anything is still on your phone only, a banner on the Incidents tab says how many changes are waiting, for example 1 change waiting to sync. Each incident with unsynced changes is marked in the list too.
Tap the banner to see every unsynced change: which incident, which resort, when you made it, and why it hasn't uploaded yet. From there you can:
- Open the incident.
- Retry if you're back in coverage and want to sync now.
- Discard a change you don't want. The app asks you to confirm, because a discarded change is gone for good.
I work at more than one resort
Each change syncs to the resort it was made in. If you made changes at one resort and then switched to another, those changes wait. The list shows Saved in [resort]. Switch to that resort to sync it, with a button to switch. If you no longer have access to that resort, the app says so and only offers to discard the change.
What if the same incident changed while I was offline?
If an incident you edited offline was also changed on the server, the app shows a banner asking whether to Keep mine or Use server. This makes sure your offline work and someone else's changes aren't overwritten by accident.
What should I avoid?
- Don't sign out or delete the app while you have unsynced changes. They only exist on your phone until they sync, so get back into coverage and let them upload first. If you try to sign out, the app warns you first. See What happens when I sign out of the Medic52 mobile app?
- A few things need a live connection, such as loading your area list when signing on; those become available again once you're online.
